The boss has bought me The Inheritance of Loss to review. This cannot be a good thing. There are far too many cross-cultural / Indo-UK/US hybrid / migratory / postcolonial novels, most of whom are merely products of clever marketing. Refer Chitra Divakaruni. Plus, I dislike Anita Desai's sappy tales and I disliked somewhat Kiran Desai's earlier book - Hullabaloo in the Guava Orchard. Too much India exoticising. It appears that if we don't have elephants and fakirs, let us have monkeys, mad wives and seers.
The burning question now is, how shall i write a truthful review without being too acerbic?
